Cerêve Inc. has developed a novel FDA-cleared device for treating insomnia and is preparing for launch in the second half of 2017. The Vice President of Marketing will initially be charged with launching Cerêve’s prescription insomnia device into the sleep medicine community, achieving sales goals in collaboration with a company-employed sales force, and developing marketing communication materials, sales collateral and programs. Initially the position demands hands-on work with a small team. Over time the VP will build and lead a world class marketing, and organization VP will lead the product transition to OTC with direct consumer and retail sales. Overall this position will significantly contribute toward Cerêve fulfilling its mission as the worldwide leader in the drug-free treatment insomnia.


Based in Pittsburgh, PA and reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Marketing will be responsible for leading the strategic and tactical marketing functions for Cereve. The Vice President of Marketing will work closely with the CEO, VP Sales, CFO, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Research & Development. He/she will interact with customers, board members, advertising and PR agencies, industry executives, external resources and key opinion leaders.

Cerêve seeks a seasoned marketing executive with a track record of success in launching both Rx and OTC products in emerging companies. This individual will be a classically trained marketer who can develop and execute a strategic marketing plan while understanding how to be opportunistic. He/She will also demonstrate flexibility and will be able to course correct as the company is pioneering a new insomnia solution. Specific experience in working closely with a sales organization to gain professional prescriptions and recommendations is required.

The Vice President of Marketing will lead through conviction of purpose and consistently demonstrate strength in character. He/She will be comfortable being decisive despite incomplete information. Specific responsibilities include:

-Executing go-to-market plan, course correcting, and revising plans as needed

-Oversee execution of tactics such as sales programs collateral, packaging and labeling, digital marketing, and traditional advertising

-Identify and manage external agencies and consultants including advertising, PR, and market research

-Build a world class marketing team by attracting and developing marketing talent, creating the appropriate organizational structure, and establishing the marketing department’s ’s methodologies, processes, and procedures

-Represent marketing in interactions with senior management and Board of Directors

Our ideal candidate will have:

-Successfully launched prescription medical devices and/or self-pay products sold via physician offices driven via both direct sales and direct-to-consumer promotion

-Been a classically trained marketer in a successful larger organization as well as established a track record of success in start up / emerging companies

-A deep understanding of the selling process, having worked closely with sales and ideally been a field representative calling on physicians

-Successfully launched OTC products including direct online sales to consumers as well as sales through national retailers including drug, mass and club

-Built world-class marketing organizations

-Familiarity with sleep physicians and sleep labs


-Strong marketing pedigree with track record of building brands over time

-10+ years successfully launching and growing novel medical devices or products driven by both company-employed representatives and direct-to-consumer marketing

-5+ years’ experience building and managing a team

-Start-up / early stage experience, or at minimum can clearly demonstrate ability to work in an entrepreneurial, hands on and adaptive environment

Plusses (prioritized)

-5+ years successfully launching and growing OTC products, including direct to consumer sales

-5+ years experience with retail distribution including drug, mass, club and online


-Experience in products sold through physician offices, such as aesthetic (e.g. Coolsculpting), eye procedures (e.g. LASIK), dental procedures (e.g. InvisAlign), hearing devices, or skin care products

-Field sales or management experience

-Experience in sleep space
